Details about this tool are covered later in this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>To preview the visual design<\/strong><\/em> of your campaign before you publish the campaign use the&nbsp;<strong><em>Preview tool<\/em><\/strong>. The <strong><em>Preview Campaign<\/em><\/strong> section of this article provides a comprehensive overview of this tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aP7v625orQE?rel=0\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Note About Cookies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alert-box alert-blue\">\n<p class=\"alert-box-title\">Important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OptinMonster uses cookies to control how often a campaign can appear after it has been interacted with or converted. <br><br>When testing campaigns, depending on the cookie settings you&#8217;ve configured, this can prevent campaigns from reappearing. This section will walk you through ways to clear cookies when testing campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-arrow-link has-link-color\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A cookie is a small file stored on your computer that provides information. OptinMonster uses cookies to determine when a campaign was shown to a visitor, closed, and successfully converted. Using that information we can then hide or show the campaign again at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/how-optin-cookies-and-the-global-cookie-work-in-optinmonster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Learn how to customize the cookie settings in OptinMonster<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few different approaches you can take for clearing cookies when testing campaigns. We generally recommend you use the approach that makes the most sense for your individual workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Clearing Cookies for Testing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using an Incognito or Private Window<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you open a new Incognito window (aka private browsing session) it will start out with no previously-set cookies and you&#8217;ll be seen as a brand-new visitor by OptinMonster. As you continue using the Incognito window cookies will be set normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can quickly clear cookies by closing the Incognito window and opening a new Incognito window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using a Query Argument<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can force OptinMonster to manually clear all OptinMonster-related browser cookies when you load a webpage by adding a query argument to the end of the URL you are testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do this, simply add the query argument \u201c?omclear=true\u201d to the end of the page URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you are testing a campaign on the page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>http:\/\/domain.com\/page<\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you can edit the URL to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>http:\/\/domain.com\/page?<b>omclear=true<\/b><\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>If the URL already has query arguments, you&#8217;ll use an ampersand instead of a question mark, like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><code>http:\/\/domain.com\/page?utm_source=email<b>&amp;omclear=true<\/b><\/code><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Only OptinMonster&#8217;s cookies will be deleted when the page loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alert-box alert-yellow\">\n<p class=\"alert-box-title\">Note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your website is configured to strip query arguments from the URL this method may not work and you&#8217;ll need to choose a different option for clearing cookies when testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-arrow-link has-link-color\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Manually Clearing Browser Cookies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can always manually clear cookies from your browser application before re-testing. This approach is not always convenient since it will end up removing ALL cookies set requiring you to log back into websites, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellotech.com\/guide\/for\/how-to-clear-cookies-chrome-safari-mozilla-firefox-edge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Learn how to manually clear cookies from any browser application<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"test-on-any-site\"><strong>Using the Live Site Inspector<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>OptinMonster allows you to quickly test your <a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/how-to-use-display-rules-in-optinmonster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Display Rules<\/a> and test the campaign&#8217;s optin form submission using our <strong>Live Site Inspector<\/strong> tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alert-box alert-yellow\">\n<p class=\"alert-box-title\"><strong>The Live Site Inspector <em>does not<\/em> check that the campaign is published live to your site<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It confirms only the Display Rules configured and provides a way to test the optin form submission even if the campaign is not yet published to your site.<br><br>To check that your site is published live to your site please use a brand new Incognito window to visit your website directly on the page(s) where your campaign should appear. If you experience any issues with this testing process please <a href=\"https:\/\/app.optinmonster.com\/account\/support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">reach out to our support team directly<\/a>, we are delighted to assist!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-arrow-link has-link-color\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Testing Display Rules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To use the Live Site Inspector feature to confirm your Display Rules, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em><strong>Before you start<\/strong><\/em>, navigate to the <strong>Publish <\/strong>view of the campaign builder and confirm you&#8217;ve assigned the domain of the site you&#8217;ll be testing the campaign on in the&nbsp;<strong>Websites<\/strong> section. Here\u2019s how to do that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, make sure your campaign appears on the page by following the steps in the section above. The campaign needs to be visible before you can test the form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you see the campaign, go ahead and fill out and submit the form. If your campaign uses our <a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/how-to-create-a-yes-no-optin-with-optinmonster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Yes\/No<\/a> feature, you&#8217;ll need to click one of the Yes\/No buttons first to get to the Optin view.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"621\" class=\"wp-image-206570\" style=\"width: 800px;\" src=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button.png\" alt=\"click_on_yes_button\" srcset=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button.png 1587w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button-1024x795.png 1024w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button-768x596.png 768w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/click_on_yes_button-1536x1192.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><br>Clicking the <strong>YES, SIGN ME UP<\/strong> button will display the Optin view. Here\u2019s what you might see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Success Message<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When everything works correctly, you&#8217;ll see a success message. An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/categories\/docs\/integrations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">integration is required<\/a>&nbsp;before your campaign can capture lead data. If you don&#8217;t have an email service provider, you can use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/connect-monster-leads-optinmonster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Monster Leads<\/a>&nbsp;to store leads right inside your OptinMonster account.<br><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"420\" class=\"wp-image-200690\" style=\"width: 800px;\" src=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error.png 3022w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error-1024x537.png 1024w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error-768x403.png 768w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error-1536x806.png 1536w, https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/oops2_error-2048x1075.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anti-Spam Error Messages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To protect you from spam bots, our native integrations automatically include a hidden anti-spam field called a honeypot. It&#8217;s on by default and you don&#8217;t need to do anything to set it up! For even more protection, you can also enable <a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/how-to-use-google-recaptcha-to-prevent-spam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Google reCAPTCHA<\/a> or our <a href=\"https:\/\/optinmonster.com\/docs\/how-to-use-lead-verification-in-optinmonster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Lead Verification<\/a> service. When a submission is flagged by one of these features, the spammer will see the normal success message, but the lead will be blocked and you&#8217;ll see an error in the test results. To test a Draft or Scheduled campaign you should use the <strong><em>Live Site Inspector<\/em><\/strong> tool instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Previewing Inline Campaigns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because Inline type campaigns are shown in the page content and not as an overlay, our automated Preview tool has no way of assuming where in the page content the campaign should be visually displayed. For that reason, the Preview tool (as shown in the previous section) is greyed out and unavailable for Inline campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can still preview Inline campaigns on your site before launching them, following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em><strong>Before you start<\/strong><\/em>, the campaign should not yet be published. This section will show how to Preview an Inline campaign on your site without Publishing it live to all site traffic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Embed the Inline campaign in the page content where you want it to visually appear. Even if the site status shows as &#8220;Connected&#8221; in OptinMonster, something may have changed with the implementation of the embed code since our system first checked the connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using Shopify be sure you&#8217;ve assigned the campaign to both the pretty domain and the Shopify admin domain of your store. You can often check this by forcing a non-cached version of the page to load by adding the query argument ?nocache=true to the end of the test URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you are testing <code>domain.com<\/code> you would force a non-cached version of the page to load by visiting <code>domain.com?nocache=true<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Browser extension interference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In some cases, a specific browser extension can cause problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To check if this is the case, try using a different major browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera) that does not have any extensions installed, OR use a brand new Incognito window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Using a privacy browser.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When testing we recommend you use a major browser and not rely on privacy browsers (like Brave, etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Internet network \/ firewall interference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although not common, in some instances your internet network or company firewall may be interfering.
